War. War never changes.

Since the dawn of human kind, when our ancestors first discovered the killing power of rock and bone, blood has been spilt in the name of everything, from god, to justice, to psychotic rage. Nothing could stop the slaughter.

Not even October 23, 2077, the day of fire, the day the world ended, could end the carnage. Man had succeeded in destroying the world, but not himself.

Of those who pulled themselves from the rubble and ash formed new tribes to try and survive. One such tribe called themselves the "Brotherhood of Steel." This tribe, using powerful pre-war technology, sent some of their own east from their home in the southwest to find greater sources of technology. A great storm, what the locals refer to as the Maelstrom, scattered these explorers, forcing them to settle down in what was one the Midwest of the United States.

Referring to themselves as the Midwest brotherhood, they set about the task of stabilizing the area from its various threats -- raiders, super mutants, and even a mechanical foe. With fists of steel, the Brotherhood crushed all threats to the Midwest, and brought the area under harsh, but safe, rule. For nearly 100 years, the Brotherhood lorded over the Midwest in this way, but a threat encroached from them, coming out of their old home in the southwest, a threat unlike any other they had seen.

Caeser's Legion, a warband built from the conquest of 86 tribes, was moving east in search of territory. The Brotherhood responsed to them as they did to any raider threat, but in their complacenty and arrogance they underestimated the Legion. The ensuing war brought the Brotherhood of Steel to its knees, the only thing saving them was the Legion's suprise withdrawl from the area to fight on some other distant battlefield. The crippled Brotherhood lost control over most of its holding, and the Midwest quickly fell back into chaos.

Now, nearly ten years after the end of the war, things in the midwest are more volatle than ever. The Brotherhood is making a push to reclaim its lost territory. Rumors spread that the Legion is returning to finish what was started a decade ago. From the north, there is a radio signal proclaiming that it will bring new life into a dead land. The people of the midwest can feel the tension in the air -- they know that soon the entire midwest will become a battlezone.

They know war is coming.

And war? War never changes.
